The mental model
Imagine a human DJ sitting next to you, taking notes. Every time you say "more like this", they note it. Every time you say "play something jazzier", they pivot. And they quietly notice what you let play and what makes you reach for the dial. After a week of this they know what you want by 8am on a Tuesday. That’s what musen’s AI does. It just takes notes faster and doesn’t lose them.
Explicit signal #1: Train Radio
Train Radio is the most direct way to tell musen who you are. You swipe through topics (genres, moods, themes) and mark each one Love it! or Not for me. Onboarding asks for just a few swipes to get started; you can come back any time from your account and keep going. Every choice sharpens what the radio reaches for, and every choice can be revised later: taste changes, and the radio should change with it.
Explicit signal #2: Requests
A request steers the radio right now. Type it (up to 240 characters), say it out loud, or show it with a picture: "morning focus, no vocals", "1970s Ethiopian jazz", a photo of a rainy street. musen interprets the intention and shifts the stream in that direction. A request shapes where the radio goes next; it doesn’t hard-reset what’s playing, so the stream stays coherent instead of lurching. Your request history stays available in the app, and you can reset it.
The quiet signal: how you actually listen
Did you stay with the stream or step away? Which sessions run long? What do you come back to, and at what time of day? Listening behaviour is a quieter signal than a swipe or a request, but there’s a lot of it, and in aggregate it does real work. This is also why the radio is designed around sessions and continuity rather than clicks: what you keep listening to says more than what you tap.
Context: time and language
The radio pays attention to when you listen: a Tuesday morning and a Friday night are different rooms, and the stream should walk into the right one. Your content language (English, Spanish, German, Italian, or Portuguese) also shapes what spoken content the radio suggests when it’s available. Neither requires any setup beyond your onboarding choices.
What we deliberately don’t do
We don’t read your email. We don’t read your calendar. We don’t read your contacts. We don’t read your clipboard. We don’t share your listening with advertisers (musen has no advertising). We don’t enrich your profile with third-party data. Voice and picture requests are used to interpret that request. Your taste profile lives inside your account, and deleting your account deletes it. The details live in the Privacy Policy.
How long until your radio feels "yours"?
Honestly: it depends on how you use it. The first session starts from your Train Radio choices, so it isn’t a cold start. Requests move things immediately. The slower, deeper adaptation (the radio knowing what your Tuesday morning sounds like) comes from regular listening over days and weeks. We’re deliberately not quoting precise timelines; listening habits differ too much for one number to be honest.
Changing your mind
Preferences should stay changeable. Nothing you swipe or request is permanent doctrine: recent signals matter, and Train Radio is always open if your taste moves. If the radio has drifted somewhere you don’t like, the fastest fixes are a fresh request and a few new swipes.
FAQ
Can I reset my taste? You can reshape it any time: new Train Radio swipes and new requests outweigh old signals, and you can reset your request history in the app. Deleting your account removes your data entirely. Does musen sell my data? No. We do not, and have no business model that requires it. What if I share my account? The radio will blend both tastes and please neither of you. Use separate accounts.
